02.06.12 -_jonthan_and_ruben_in_the_snowJohnathan Barahona and Ruben Siguenza have earned the privilege through soccer and their fantastic playing skills along with hard work to be in the United States playing with the Colorado Rush U18 Academy Team.

Both Johnathan and Ruben are apart of the FESA Academy in Central America which partnered with Colorado Rush to make the trip possible for these two young men.

FESA Academy is a Soccer (Futbol) Academy in El Salvador and is:

  • 5 time champions of Central American Academy Championship - The Menedy Cup 2ND place in 2007 Copa Latino Americana in Argentina - only to lose to Boca Juniors in the Finals
  • One of the main objectives of FESA is to seek opportunities for young players to improve their quality of life through sports and education.
  • They also want El Salvador to be known as a country of great players who can play with any league in the world.

Miguel Jaime of the U16 Rush Development Academy team was able to meet up with Johnathan and Ruben at the Foothills Indoor Soccer Complex and interview them while they were with their Host Families from Colorado Rush.

Ruben came to Colorado first from a 6 month stay playing in Italy and Johnathan followed coming from El Salvador. Both speak Spanish and little English.

Why did you come to the United States?

Ruben: For the chance to play and get some education at the same time.

Johnathan: I like the idea that you can play soccer and get college education at the same time!

How do you like the weather in Colorado? (Both were here for the recent snow storm)

Ruben: The weather is not much different from the cold in Italy.

Johnathan: Not too bad I guess!??

What sports do you like and who is your favorite soccer player?

Johnanthan: I hate basketball but I enjoy watching football.

Ruben: I like Messi!!!!

What is your favorite food?

Ruben:I Love "La Laza!"- which is a chicken based plate.

What Positions do you play in Soccer?

Johnathan: Defense

Both Ruben and Johnathan will be staying in Colorado through August of 2012, hoping to help the U18 Colorado Rush Academy Team throughout the remainder of their season!

Please Welcome them to our Rush Family during their stay in Colorado! And please stay tuned for more stories on Jonathan and Ruben's adventures here in the United States as well as many more stories on the Colorado Rush Development Academy.
